Depuis qu'ils sont arrivés d'Arabie Saoudite, ils parcourent la Jeffara avec leurs moutons et le Dahar avec leurs chameaux. Trois mois ici, deux mois là, le père, le fils et les trois garçons <em>occupent</em> un carré d'une centaine de kilomètres de côté, sans arrêt à la recherche de l'eau et de l'herbe.</p> <p>Certes, l'état moderne, après le colonisateur, a bien cherché à les sédentariser, et ils ont construit, et même planté des oliviers. Et pourtant, la famille Habhab y vit et y prospère.</p> <p>En 1960, le père crée une huilerie avec l'argent gagné à l'étranger, puis la modernise. En 1988, Na'sr, le fils, prend le relais : ce sont 200 hectares de plus en plaine qui porteront bientôt 2000 oliviers adultes et une voiture, un tracteur, un camion, quinze à vingt employés à l'huilerie, un commerce à Tunis...<br /> Une saga de quarante ans.</p> <p>Les pâturages labourés et plantés qui causeraient une catastrophe écologique ? Commencée comme un coup d'État bien ordinaire, la guerre est devenue civile, barbare sous le regard impuissant des humanitaires, des militaires et des médias. Devant cette folie fratricide incontrôlable, tout le monde est parti.<br /> Juin 1995. Halima est une de ces réfugiées qui a connu l'horreur des camps au Kenya. De retour d'exil, elle tente de reconstruire un village sur les ruines de sa terre dévastée. C'est en poèmes, selon la grande tradition somalie, qu'Halima exprime les choses trop fortes ou trop difficiles pour être énoncées en mots ordinaires. Elle dit l'exil, la faim, la soif, les viols. Puis elle exhorte son peuple à ne plus se satisfaire de l'aide internationale. La solidarité s'organise. Les religieux font la quête. D'anciens gendarmes, seuls hommes ici sans armes, font régner un semblant d'ordre. Un ancien étudiant rouvre une école. Il vit avec sa femme R'quia, ses enfants et son troupeau, à 1800 mètres d'altitude dans un sommaire abri de plastique, été comme hiver. Il n'a pas le droit de construire et aucune possibilité de s'abriter en plaine… Mais il s'accroche, <strong>au nom du droit du sol</strong>.</p> <p>C'est un étranger : il est arabe et, ici, on est berbère. On prépare le filet, en bavardant ou en chantonnant...</p> <p>La pirogue va franchir avec effort la barre souvent meurtière, déployer le filet parallèlement à la plage et revenir à terre ; les hommes hâleront le filet depuis la dune au rythme de chansons dédiées à leur petite amie et qui parlent d'avions qui les emmèneraient en ville.
